Four architects, an interior designer, a landscape designer and three artists espoused their knowledge on a colorful variety of topics from the negative impact the 1950's had on good design in urban planning to the celebration of funk in Dayton to Evel Knievel jumping the Snake River Canyon.

AIA DAYTON FIRMS PARTICIPATE IN THE STRATEGIC RE-USE PROJECT

March 2009. AIA Dayton architects participating in the Strategic Building Re-use Project: New Ideas for Downtown Spaces and Places. The project was spearheaded by the Downtown Dayton Partnership and the results of the ten firms' efforts were unveiled on March 25th at a news conference in the former Third National/Key Bank Building. Coverage of the event was carried by all the local networks, the Dayton Daily News and numerous other media outlets. Building owners and developers attended the news conference and reception, as did local government officials, business leaders, community activists, architects and many others. Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin, an enthusiastic supporter of the project, addressed the packed lobby and praised the creativity and applicability of the proposed designs for the vacant/underused buildings. Excitement was the key word for the event. The proposed possibilities for housing, retail, market, and landscape design were very diverse and electric. The architects' renderings will be on display in the Kettering Tower Lobby from now until April 10. The architects' visions of what downtown Dayton could be were exciting indeed. A big thank you to: App Architecture, The Architectural Group, Earl Reeder Associates, Greg L. Lauterbach Architect, John Poe Architects, Jeff Wray Architects, Levin Porter Associates, Lorenz Williams, Matrix Architects and Rogero Buckman Architects.
